When school is stressing me out and I need a little escape, I always turn to my trusty Netflix to guide me through tough times. A few weeks ago I was casually flipping through the recently added section and I stumbled across The Carrie Diaries. If you didn't already know, I am a HUGE Sex and The City fan. (I would consider myself to be a Carrie) So it felt it so wrong, but so right to binge watch every episode of this show in one night. Something you should also know about me is that I've never been too into television programs targeted at teens. I've never cared much for shows like The Vampire Diaries, One Tree Hill or 90210, but i do make a few exceptions. I love the OC, Gossip Girl and now I love The Carrie Diaries.
Set in 1980s Connecticut, you get to watch young Carrie Bradshaw and her high school friends survive high school life. It's pretty much like every other teen drama: sex, underage drinking and gossip, gossip, gossip. Like it's tag line says, "Before there was sex and before there was the city, there was me, Carrie Bradshaw," so you really get to watch Carrie grow into the savvy and stylish New Yorker she is today. The show is filled with a fair share of wannabe 80's attire and enough hair spray to make a hole in the ozone layer. I applaud them for their attempt at styling, but even a kid born in 1994 can tell that those clothes are far from a John Hughes movie. But there's nothing like some poofy dresses on Carrie Bradshaw to make you feel inspired.
